How to make a Banner Bar installation tool kit

Bring the right tools for the job:
How to make a simple Banner Bar installation kit for your shop

The Banner Bar was designed to make installing freestanding banners easy but of course It's only easy if you have the right tools for the job.  Some tools are used for all installs and some tools are recommended as a "just in case" scenario.
Banner Bar Installation Tools
Installation Tools
  • Small toolbox (always stocked and ready to go)
  • Small drill with a 1/8" bit for securing the bungee retainers
  • Phillips screwdriver for fastening the bungee retainer screws
  • Tape measure (not always needed but nice to have)
  • Utility or other style of knife (not always needed but nice to have)
  • Channellock pliers (use to straighten deformed t-post tops)
  • Flat rasp & round file (use to de-bur t-posts or improve clearance on post caps, etc.)  Not needed very often but nice to have available
  • Gloves (especially when installing in rocky ground)
  • Ear plugs (prevent ear damage when driving posts into ground)
  • Post puller (optional but very handy to remove existing t-posts from ground)
  • Post driver (I like the type that has a post straightener at the top, especially for rocky soil installs - available at Tractor Supply)
  • Hand saw (not pictured: used to shorten pole covers on sloped installations)
Extra Parts
The following extra parts are suggested especially when servicing existing Banner Bar clients.  Extra parts are available by contacting us directly at [email protected]
  • Extra set of bungee retainers
  • Extra set of post caps
  • Extra post extension
  • Full set of bungees (top and side bungees).  We recommend keeping fresh bungees on your install truck or in your sales vehicles so you can quickly change your client's bungees when needed.
T-Posts
T-posts are inexpensive and readily available at most ranch supply stores.  See our recommended T-post and T-post driver suppliers here.   The Banner Bar is designed to work with 6.5' long t-posts.  T-posts are rated with a pound per foot rating.  The Banner Bar works with 1.25 lb per foot or 1.33 lb per foot t-posts.  Garden variety t-posts or U-channel posts are not compatible with the Banner Bar.

How often does your shop hear this question . . . . "How should I install my banner?"

As a previous wide format print shop owner, I was often asked how to install banners. Prior to developing the Banner Bar, we didn't have a way to answer this question with a high level of confidence.  Most people had access to "green fence posts" so they would drive a couple of posts in the ground and stretch the banner between them.
Banner on the ground
It was not uncommon to drive by their place of business a few days later and see their brand new banner on the ground or shredded by the wind.  Many customers would get frustrated because they thought we'd sold them a poor quality banner that didn't last.  In reality, we produced their banners using quality materials and finishing techniques. The true culprit was the lack of a good frame system to hold their banner.  This problem set me on the path to create a solution for displaying freestanding banners that could withstand 30 to 40 mph winds.
V-Configuration Banner Frame

Three Post Configuration:
  • Perfect for events requiring larger banners
  • Telescoping design supports 12' wide or 16' wide banners

  • This is our most wind-proof configuration

This short video provides four tips to improve your Banner Bar installations.  We focus specifically on the T-post portion of the install:
  • Length of posts needed (6'-6")
  • How deep should posts be driven (18")
  • How much of the post should be exposed at the top once your pole covers have been installed (3" to 3.5")
  • Learn where the T-clip should lock into the T-post (you'll have to watch the video below for this answer)

Automotive Dealership Case Study - V-Config Banner Bar Installation

10/17/2024

The video features a V-Config Banner Bar recently installed by Blackout Graphics to promote their client's 50th year anniversary event.  Prior to purchasing the V-Config, the dealership used an old marquee sign to display their promotional messages.  Their marquee sign not only looked outdated but it was also very difficult to read at 45 MPH.

The V-Config Banner Bar solved the following problems for the dealership:
  • They needed a quick solution to display banners professionally (Blackout Graphics had 3 days to deliver and install)
  • Solution for quick and easy banner changes for future promotions
  • A banner frame that could be moved to different locations when needed
  • Excellent visibility at 45 MPH drive-by speeds
  • Ability to display two different banners at the same time
  • Modern replacement for their outdated yellow marquee sign
  • A banner frame that can withstand windy conditions

Standard 6'-8' Banner Bar Kit - Used to Promote Night Ranger Concert
If you are a sign company looking for a solution to display temporary event banner(s), The Banner Bar is the perfect solution for your clients.  They won't have to worry about their banners blowing down in an unexpected wind when installed on The Banner Bar.  Kits are available for smaller directional signage as well as larger 16' wide banners.  Our frames install easily in landscaped areas as well as in undeveloped areas.  Once their event is over, they can easily remove the frames and store them for their next event.  If they hold events in one location on a regular basis, leave the Banner Bar in place and simply change the banner(s) for their next event.
